Apple Cider Vinegar for ConstipationApple cider vinegar is a type of vinegar  made by squeezing the liquid from apples.  It has been used to cure various health and beauty problems with its medical properties for centuries.

One of its uses is it can cure constipation, a condition in which the bowel emptying occurs infrequently, and cause pain.

How Apple Cider Vinegar helps to treat Constipation:

  • Apple Cider Vinegar acts as natural laxative which helps to induce the bowel movements.
  • Apple cider vinegar contains pectin which is a water soluble fibre that helps to normalize the acid levels and increase the absorption of fibre to improve the digestion and to treat constipation.
  • It has malic acid which helps to ease the digestive problems like constipation.
  • ACV is made up of fermented apples into alcohol with the addition of sugar and yeast and which ferment into acetic acid that eases constipation.

How to use Apple Cider Vinegar for Constipation:

Apple cider vinegar is proven treatment for constipation and it can be used in many ways. Some of the popular home methods to treat constipation are discussed below. Follow this process regularly to get rid of the constipation.

Method – 1: (Apple Cider Vinegar)

  1. Mix apple cider vinegar in 8 oz of fresh water and honey, or apple or grape juice and drink twice a day(once in the morning and once in the night before going to bed).
  2. Or ACV can also be taken in pills form, although consult your doctor about dosage.

Method – 2: (Apple Cider Vinegar with Honey)

  1. Take a tablespoon of raw organic or manuka honey.
  2. Mix with two tablespoons of organic apple cider vinegar in a cup of warm water.
  3. Drink this twice a day i.e. once in the morning on empty stomach before breakfast and once 30 minutes before going to bed.

Method – 3: (Apple Cider Vinegar with Flaxseeds)

  1. Add 2 tablespoons of flaxseeds to 2 cups of boiling distilled water.
  2. Boil for 10 minutes after that strain the seeds.
  3. Add a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to strained water.
  4. Drink this regularly.

Method – 4: (Apple Cider Vinegar with Psyllium Husk Powder)

  1. Into a glass of water, add 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and 2 teaspoons of psyllium husk powder.
  2. stir well and drink it immediately before it coagulates.
  3. Repeat the process regularly.
  4. To improve taste, you can add 2 teaspoons of honey into it.

Note: Make sure to drink lots of water through out the day while following this method.

Apple Cider Vinegar for IBS Constipation:

IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) is defined as a disruption of or an intolerance for intestinal movements, it can be uncomfortable and painful! ACV possesses anti-bacterial properties that helps to treat IBS by eliminating the harmful bacteria and allows your body to digest the food properly. It also contains living nutrients and beneficial bacteria that help for better digestion.

Method:

  1. Mix 2 tablespoons of Apple cider vinegar in 8 oz of water.
  2. Stir it well and drink this twice a day before meals.
  3. Try not to take on an empty stomach. Better have a good meal beforehand and some bananas as it’s one great home remedy for constipation.

When you’re using apple cider vinegar as a solution to cure constipation, make sure to follow certain precautions.

 

  • Drinking lots of apple cider vinegar can have some side effects. It is acidic in nature and when taken it can irritate your throat and stomach. Therefore drink in moderation and mix with water if it is your first time.
  • If you experience the persistent constipation, tit might be best to consult other methods.

  1. Hi I need your help I started using apple cider vinegar 2days ago so to my surprise it makes me sweat too much and feel very hot what could be the problem

    1. ACV helps to flush out the toxins from the liver. But too much consumption can be harmful so limit it to 4 – 5 tablespoons per day.

    1. It is safe to take during pregnancy but don’t take it daily. As too much consumption of apple cider vinegar reduces potassium levels. Apart from that include fibre rich foods in your daily diet to prevent constipation.

    1. For treating indigestion or constipation problem, you use acv occasionally, so it wouldn’t affect on your weight.

  4. Would the ACV recipe for constipation work without the honey added to it. And is drinking it lukewarm better than drinking it hot like a tea?

    1. Yes, you can avoid honey and drink dilute apple cider vinegar solution. It is better to drink it with lukewarm water rather than in hot water.

  5. I have diverticulitis and I do have a hard time useing the bathroom would it be OK to take apple cider and also can drinking apple cider help lose weight

  6. Since I started drinking 1 TBSP of ACV mixed with water once a day I have become constipated. I never had this problem before. What could be the cause?

      1. It causes constipation for me too. I didnt have daily constipation b4 takjng acv. Now I go every 2-3 days vs every day and they are hard pebble-like and hard to pass.

    1. Yes, ACV is safe for children. Add 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar into a glass of water and let her drink it first thing in the morning. You can add some honey to improve the taste. You can slowly increase the quantity to 1 tablespoon. Apart from that, let her drink plenty of water and increase fiber content in her daily food.

    How much apple cider vinegar, and how much water? Filtered lukewarm water??

    1. You have to add 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and 300 ml of water. It is better to use filtered water for effective results.

  9. I started a diet using Pure Extract Forskolin and Braggs ACV. Since starting I have lost some weight but since Friday I have not had what I consider a good BM. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?

  11. I”m 32. Since I was 16 I have had hell trying to have good BMs. I am on linzess but sometimes it doesn’t work well and it seems to make me extremely uncomfortable. Fiber seems to do nothing for me except make me feel like there’s a rock in my gut, no matter how much water I drink it just doesn’t seem to help. Today I’m starting the ACV. I am miserable and constipation is taking over my life. I got to bed in pain and I wake up in pain, even if my linzess worked that morning.. Nothing seems to work right. I am hoping this helps. How long after taking ACV should I have a BM? And how long should I try this before deciding it’s not working?

    1. Usually the bowel movement should start within a day. Try for at least 2 – 3 days to know whether it is working or not.

    2. I’ve tried the ACV twice and I have horrible IBS (pain morning, night and throughout the day). About 20 minutes after drinking a few gulps of the ACV I had “some movement” and it wasn’t so bad that it was runny. Sorry for the TMI but just FYI.

  13. Although I drink plenty of other fluids I seldomly drink water can this be contributing to my irregular bowel movements and constipation ?

  14. My Mother is 93 her stomach is bloated.can I give her ACV with cranberry juice and maple syrup to clean her colon out. When I push on her stomach it hurt her. She isn’t constipated at all. I feel her colon should be cleaned out.

  15. I have taken Swiss kriss herbal laxative for years..with good results..I have been taking acv for about 5months and am now having trouble with constipation.. should I stop the laxative or the acv?

  16. I have a duodenal diverticula, and wonder if I can take the apple cider vinegar diluted to help with severe constipation? I have MS, which does constipate, plus living with lots of pain from neuropathy.
