Home Remedies for WartWarts are a very common, yet very unsightly and embarrassing problem. Caused by the human papilomavirus (HPV), these small, non-cancerous growths of rough skin can appear individually or in clusters, and they can be spread from one person to another and from one part of the body to another.

Warts can appear anywhere on the body, but they’re most frequently found on hands and feet, and the most common types are flat warts, common warts, plantar warts, and genital warts. It can take 6 months to 2 years for a wart to disappear without treatment, but you’re about to learn how to accelerate the healing process without spending money on over-the-counter products.

Home Remedies for Wart:

The home remedies outlined in this article use inexpensive ingredients you probably already have in your home. Let’s get started!

1. Garlic

Garlic is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal. It fights the virus that causes warts. Use garlic in your cooking, take 3 garlic supplement pills daily for a week. Follow the process below.

Process:

  • Crush one fresh garlic clove.
  • Apply it to the wart and wrap with bandage.
  • Leave on 25 minutes.
  • Remove bandage and garlic and rinse with water.
  • Garlic is caustic, so it will cause the wart to blister and fall off.
  • Repeat 2 times daily for a week.

2. Baking Soda

Baking soda is anti-viral, anti-septic, and anti-inflammatory. It fights the virus that causes warts and reduces swelling.

Process 1:

  • Mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda with 1 teaspoon of white vinegar to make a paste.
  • Apply to wart and leave on 30 minutes.
  • Repeat 2 times daily.
  • Also do this before bed, cover it with a bandage and leave on overnight.

Process 2:

  • Mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with enough castor oil to make a paste.
  • Apply it to the wart before bed, cover it with a bandage, and leave on overnight.
  • In the morning, rinse with water.
  • Repeat daily.

Process 3:

  • Mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda into a glass of water.
  • Wash wart-plagued hand or foot in that solution.
  • Allow the solution to dry on the skin.
  • Rinse with water.
  • Repeat 2 times daily.

3. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory properties that help heal warts while soothing the skin.

Process:

  • Mix 2 parts of apple cider vinegar with 1 part of water.
  • Apply to wart by using a clean cotton ball, cover with bandage.
  • Leave on overnight.
  • In the morning, rinse with water.
  • Repeat nightly for few weeks.
  • Wart will fall off by leaving a small mark that gradually vanishes after sometime.

4. Vitamin C

The acid in vitamin C wears away the wart and fights the virus that causes it.

Process:

  • Crush 2-3 vitamin C tablets.
  • Mix with enough water to make a paste.
  • Apply to wart, cover with bandage.
  • This may cause a burning sensation, but it will subside.
  • Leave on overnight.
  • In the morning, rinse with water.
  • Repeat nightly to get rid of warts.
  • Note: It will cause some burning sensation but will go away after sometime.

5. Apple Juice

The virus that causes warts thrives in bodies with low magnesium levels. Apple juice contains plenty of magnesium, and it is mildly acidic so it will wear down the wart. Drink it and use it topically.

Process:

  • Slice open the outer layer of the wart.
  • Use a cotton ball to apply organic apple juice.
  • Leave it on all day.
  • You can also soak onion slices in apple juice and apply these to warts for 30 minutes.
  • For added benefits, sprinkle salt over the onion slices.
  • Repeat thrice a day.

6. Hot Water

Soaking in hot water helps to soften and dry out the wart.

Process:

  • Slough the affected skin area with an emery board or pumice stones for effective results.
  • Soak warts affected for 20 minutes.
  • Do this 2 times a day.
  •  For added benefit, mix epsom salt or vinegar into the water.

7. Pineapple Juice

Pineapple juice contains enzymes and acids that soften and wear away warts.

Process:

  • Pour organic pineapple juice into a bowl.
  • Soak the wart for 3-5 minutes, then rinse with water.
  • Repeat 2 times a day.
  • It will sting when you apply.

8. Aloe Vera

Aloe vera has anti-inflammatory property that helps to sooth the affected area and softens warts to wear them away.

Process:

  • Slice open a fresh aloe vera leaf.
  • Squeeze to extract gel.
  • Apply to wart, bandage, and leave on overnight.
  • In the morning, rinse with water.
  • Repeat nightly.
  • Note: if you don’t have aloe vera plant buy aloe vera gel at drug store and rub it on warts several times in a day

9. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil has antiviral property and fights with the virus that causes warts.

Process:

  • Mix it with water or aloe vera gel or carrier oil (never use it undiluted).
  • Stir well and apply to wart and bandage.
  • Apply several times a day and especially at night time.
  • Leave it on overnight.
  • Rinse with water in the morning.
  • Repeat regularly to remove warts.

10. Castor Oil

The ricinoleic acid in castor oil has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties that work well on small, flat warts on the face and hands.

Process:

  • Apply castor oil to the wart several times a day.
  • Make sure to apply night time with a cotton ball and bandage it.
  • Leave it on overnight.
  • In the morning, rinse with water and soak it in warm water for few mintues and rub with pumice stone.
  • Repeat daily until wart is gone.

11. Honey

Honey has anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties that help kill the HPV virus. Because it is sticky, it kills the wart by depriving it of oxygen.

Process:

  • Rub the wart with a pumice stone, wash it with water.
  • Apply a layer of honey. Bandage it and leave it on for 24 hours.
  • Repeat daily using Manuka honey or another type of raw, organic honey.

12. Banana Peel

Banana peel contains antioxidants, chemicals, and oils that help dissolve warts while strengthening the immune system to fight off the virus that causes it.

Process:

  • Place a piece of green banana peel, inside down, on the wart.
  • Tape it down with a bandage and leave it on overnight.
  • In the morning, remove bandage and wash.
  • Repeat either method daily.
  • Or You can rub the inside part of peel on the affected area several times a day.
  • Repeat several weeks to clear warts.

13. Basil

Basil has antibacterial, anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties.

Process:

  • Crush fresh basil leaves to make a paste.
  • Apply it on the wart, cover with a bandage, and leave on overnight.
  • In the morning, remove bandage and rinse with water.
  • Repeat daily.

14. Dandelion

Dandelion contains enzymes that clear away warts. Milk found in dandelion used to treat warts.

Process:

  • Pull the head off of a dandelion.
  • Squeeze the stem to extract juice.
  • Apply juice to wart, bandage, and leave on a few hours.
  • At midday, remove bandage and rinse.
  • Repeat 2 times daily.

15. Carrots

Carrots are rich in anti-oxidants, vitamins A, K, and C, and potassium. They stimulate skin cell renewal and strengthen the immune system. Eat fresh carrots daily, drink organic carrot juice  twice a day, and follow the topical process below.

Process:

  • Put a fresh carrot in the blender or juicer.
  • Mix 1 tablespoon of carrot juice with 1 teaspoon of olive oil.
  • Apply to wart and leave on 30 minutes.
  • Rinse with water and pat dry.
  • Repeat 2 times daily for at least 2 – 3 weeks to get rid of the problem.

16. Turmeric

The curcumin in turmeric has anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties that help to kill the HPV virus.

Process 1:

  • Mix 1 teaspoon of turmeric with enough water to make a fine paste.
  • Apply to wart and allow it to dry.
  • Rinse with water.
  • Repeat 2 times daily.

Process 2:

  • Mix 1 teaspoon of turmeric with enough olive oil to make a paste.
  • Wash and pat dry the affected area.
  • Apply to wart, cover with bandage, and leave on 1 hour.
  • Rinse with water.
  • Repeat daily.

17. Flaxseed Oil

Flaxseed oil or Linseed oil has omega–3 fatty acids, zinc, vitamin B, fiber, potassium, magnesium, and lecithin, all of which strengthen the immune system to help fight HPV.

Process:

  • Take flaxseed oil capsules in the dosage recommended on the package.
  • Or rub flaxseed oil on the wart 3 times a day.
  • Leave on for few minutes the wash it off with water.

18. Lemon

Lemons are acidic and anti-bacterial. They balance the pH of the skin, break down the tissue of a wart, and kill the virus that causes it.

Process:

  • Cut a lemon in half.
  • Squeeze the juice into a bowl.
  • Use a cotton ball to apply it directly to the wart.
  • Bandage and leave on overnight.
  • Rinse in the morning.
  • Or, soak onion slices in lemon juice and apply these to the wart.
  • Leave on 30 minutes, then rinse with water.
  • Repeat either process daily for 2-3 weeks.

19. Potato

There is no science to back the claim that potato cures warts, but people have been using this treatment for ages, and it appears to be effective.

Process:

  • Rub a potato slice on the wart and allow juice to dry.
  • Cover with bandage and leave on overnight.
  • For better results, Place a slice over the wart and bandage it.
  • Leave this on overnight.
  • Change bandage in the morning.
  • Repeat nightly.

20. Milkweed

Milkweed contains proteolytic enzymes that help dissolve warts. It also contains cardiac glycoside, which is toxic when taken internally. Do not get it in your mouth or eyes. Do not use this treatment if you have extremely sensitive skin.

Process:

  • Squeeze the bottom of the stem to get the sap.
  • Apply to wart, cover with bandage.
  • Leave on 2-3 hours.
  • Remove bandage and rinse.
  • Repeat daily.
  • Note: Rinse immediately if you develop a rash.

21. Vitamin E and A Oils

Vitamin E and A oils kill the HPV virus and soften the skin.

Process:

  • Take the capsules internally in dosages recommended on the package
  •  Also, slice the capsules open to extract the oil and apply this directly to the wart.
  • Cover it with adhesive bandage and leave it on overnight.
  • Remove the bandage next day morning.
  • Repeat daily.

Other Tips for Treating and Preventing Warts

  • There are other skin conditions that look similar to warts, so make sure yours is a wart before treating it.
  • Warts spread the HPV virus, so there is always a chance that the wart will come back even if successfully treated.
  • Children get warts more often than adults. Be careful not the spread the virus while treating them, and make sure they don’t pick or scratch at the wart.
  • If warts are painful, or if the multiply rapidly, seek professional medical help.
  • Avoid touching the wart and wash your hands frequently.
  • If none of these home remedies work for you, try commercial ones, especially those with salicylic acid.
  • Always wear shoes of some kind, especially in public places.
  • Warts thrive in moist, damp areas, so keep feet clean and dry.
  • Keep cuts and scrapes clean and bandaged so the HPV virus cannot infect them.
  • Eat a healthy, balanced diet that includes foods like rice, sweet potatoes, whole-grain breads, sunflower seeds, garlic, broccoli, red meats, oranges, onions, scallions, etc to strengthen the immune system.
  • Make sure to get plenty of zinc. Eat foods like spinach, collards, cucumbers, parsley and Brussels sprouts..
  • The tannic acid in tea dissolves warts. Apply a tea bag to your wart for 15 minutes daily.
  • Clove oil, lavender oil, canola oil, lemon essential oil, frankincense oil, and wheat germ oil help to heal and restore the skin before and after the wart is gone.
  • Apply white cabbage juice to warts. Also add this to your diet to remove warts.

    1. You can try 8, 11, 13, 14 or 19 methods mentioned in the above article. They are safe for removing eyelid warts. Please Note: Whatever method you follow, make sure the application doesn’t enter your eyes. Unfortunately, if it happens, wash your eyes immediately.

    1. Regular application of turmeric paste, calendula oil or garlic paste helps in treating the warts or HAPV sores in the mouth. Choose any one among the three and apply it on the warts. Hold or leave it on for 15 minutes and rinse off with water. Repeat the process daily for effective results.

  3. ?? nail polish. Cheap easy and works! My son got a huge wart on his knee. After trying the compound w and freeze away I took him to the doctor and we had it surgically removed. Thought that would be the end of it but no a whole line of baby warts sprung up around it. So we went back to compound w it didn’t work tried apple cider vinigar, iodine, garlic, banana, castor oil nothing they kept growing. Was about to try duct tape and thought Mabey super glue.. but seemed hard on the skin. Thought nail polish. Immediately noticed them shrink. So I put it on every night after his shower and he’s 6 n a picker he picks it off throu the day so I reapply every night. It’s also great cause we’re in to do he can weAr shorts and it’s at least covered from the other kids at school. It’s been a month and all I’d say 6 warts are about gone! So cheap and his skins not all tore up from compound w and he enjoys that he can pick out of the colors of nailpolish.. blue black green etc.

    1. It is better to avoid trying any home remedy to remove wart in the vagina as it is a very delicate area. It is better to consult a dermatologist to remove it.

  6. I had warts on my neck. Got it removed thrice bybthe doctor because of recurrences. Now again i have developed on my neck but this time 3-4 in number. Tried salicylic acid, lime, garlic. Iys just changing its colour from skin coloir to whitish, but no much improvement.

  7. Can I make a solution of combined ingredients, such as baking soda and tea tree oil, or baking soda and apple cider vinegar?

  8. Last year i found out i have hpv and cin2. As i was seeing few doctors i was making pap tests at that time 6 or 7. I made laser surgery on the cervix displasya and i think im fine now. When i had the hpv i was all the time sick and cold, after I made the surgery i havent gotten sick. Two months ago i noticed whiteish wart as i can see it, on the beginning of my vagina between the anus and the vagina, external. Do i need to make pap test again and does this mean that i still have hpv? Can i try one of those home remedies?
